A half day conference "Cool Heads in Hot Times: Reporting Trauma During Political Controversy” took a place on April 14, 2010 at the Club of Georgian Institute of Public Affairs. The event was a joint effort of Dart Center for Journalism and Trauma, Georgian Institute of Public Affairs, Georgian Society of Psychotrauma and Global Initiative on Psychiatry. Join leaders in the field for an ISTSS meeting in conjunction with the 15th Zurcher Psychotraumatologie-Tagung in Zurich, Switzerland on April 17, 2010!

This one-day symposium's plenaries and workshops will provide cutting-edge information for psychologists, psychotherapists, psychiatrists, social workers, researchers, journalists, healthcare managers, lawyers and others involved in working with the aftermath of trauma. Most of the presentations are in English, while some are in German, but without simultaneous translation.

October 17-18, 2008

The official launching conference 'Post-Emergency Responses: an Integrated Approach to Psychotrauma'. The conference is a joint ESTSS, GSP, GIP-Tbilisi and GCRT event. It will be opened by Prof. Berthold Gersons, past president of ESTSS. Other international speakers will include such distinguished international experts on trauma as Dr. Miranda Olff, Prof. Raija-Leena Punamaki, Dr. Brigitte Lueger-Schuster, Dr. Christian Pross. The Georgian Society of Psychotrauma (GSP) from the very first days has been actively involved in the crisis intervention. GSP is providing the technical assistance and working with various local organizations – the Global Initiative on Psychiatry (GIP-Tbilisi), Georgian Center for Rehabilitation of Torture Victims (GCRT), Association of Psychosocial Aid 'Ndoba', Union 'Saphari' - Family without Violence, etc. For more information see Society's Activities.

Lecture, a Master-Class and a Press-Conference with Frank Ochberg, a founding board member of the International Society for Traumatic Stress Studies (ISTSS) and recipient of their highest honor, the Lifetime Achievement Award, co-author of the Post-traumatic Stress Disorders (PTSD) diagnosis, a founder and chairman emeritus of the Dart Center on Journalism and Trauma. Dr. Ochberg addressed the first combined meeting of journalists and trauma experts at the office of Global Initiative on Psychiatry (GIP-Tbilisi) and helped to launch Georgian Society of Psychotrauma together with the trans Caucasian experts on treating and reporting trauma.


January 26-27, 2008

ESTSS 2 days long workshop was conducted for the Society members by Jonathan Bisson (president of ESTSS) and encompassed themes as: an initial introduction to traumatic stress (which introduced normal and pathological reactions, epidemiology and treatment modalities); and the full day of introduction to Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF CBT).
